Delphastus catalinae is a predatory beetle, used in the biological controlling of Greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) and Tobacco whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). This predatory beetle is well-known for its effectiveness. An adult is 1.5 to 2 mm. large and can survive cold periods easily. Partly because the beetle is able to withdraw legs and his head. Make sure there is enough food available, before applying Delphastus into the crop.
Life cycle and relative effectiveness
An female adult is capable to generate 50 – 75 eggs. These eggs are 0.1 – 0.2 mm. and hard to detect. The life cycle is 7 – 8 weeks, a temperature lower than 18°C will delay the production. Optimal climate condition will be between 18°C and 30°C.
Application and dose
Slightly shake before use. Pay attention to the deployment time of delphastus, in the early morning or evening. Activity of Delphastus can be confirmed by the presence of yellow excrement on the leafs. In various crops (due to leaf hairs), higher stakes may be needed.
Storage and handling
Delphastus catalinae supplied in bottles (1000 ml.), containing 1.000 predatory beetles (adults). Keep the bottles horizontally, in darkness, at a temperature between 10°C – 15°C. Maximum storage time of two days.
